TorBox vs Easynews 2026: Usenet Services Compared

Easynews is a Usenet-first service with its own search and a web interface. TorBox is a debrid service that also handles Usenet. They overlap less than the names suggest, so the right choice depends on your workflow.

Last updated Reviewed November 2026

Short answer: if Usenet is the only thing you want and you like a search box in the browser, Easynews is a mature, focused product. If you want Usenet and torrents and web downloads, plus storage and WebDAV, for less money, TorBox covers more. Easynews is also a different kind of service, not a direct clone.

What each one is

Easynews started as a Usenet provider and added a web interface. You search Usenet in the browser, preview, and download. It also supports regular NNTP clients, which the pricing tiers treat differently. Its homepage markup states 6,652+ days of article retention and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

TorBox is a debrid service: you add a torrent, magnet link, web link or NZB, it fetches and stores the files on fast servers, and you download from there. Usenet is one input among several. TorBox has no built-in Usenet search; you bring an indexer or app that provides NZBs. See the Usenet page for how that fits together.

Easynews pricing note: the three prices come from the page’s structured data. Data caps are from a Comparitech review last updated 13 April 2022, which lists Classic with 20 GB web and 40 GB NNTP, Plus with 40 GB and 80 GB, and Big Gig with 150 GB and unlimited NNTP, plus a $9.95 per month unlimited-data add-on. We could not read the current plan page, so check caps at easynews.com before you buy.

With the bonus days (7 days per month purchased, first purchase only), a first month of Essential is 37 days for $3, about $0.081 per day, and Pro is 37 days for $10, about $0.27 per day. Where Easynews wins

  • Search built in. Browse Usenet without an indexer or extra software.
  • Retention. Easynews states 6,652+ days on its site.
  • Focus. It does one thing and has done it a long time.
  • Money-back guarantee. 30 days, per its site.

Where TorBox wins

  • Price. A third of the cost for an entry plan.
  • Breadth. Torrents, web downloads, Usenet, RSS, storage and WebDAV in one account.
  • Free tier with 1 slot and 10 downloads per month.
  • API and app support. 60+ third-party apps are listed by TorBox (verify each one before relying on it).

TorBox has no official mobile app, is not open source, and has had reported downtime.

Pros

  • Much cheaper
  • Torrents and Usenet in one
  • Storage and WebDAV
  • Free tier

Cons

  • No built-in Usenet search
  • No official mobile app
  • Easynews has longer-standing Usenet focus

Simultaneous use and account sharing

A TorBox slot is one active transfer, meaning a torrent or download that is running or seeding. As of November 2026 the Help Center lists 1 slot on Free, 3 on Essential, 5 on Standard and 10 on Pro, so 3 slots means three transfers at once, not three users. Cached files do not use a slot, extra items wait in a queue and start when a slot frees up, and a download with no progress for 2 days is removed. Separately, a Help Center article says TorBox does not track your IP, puts no limit on how many devices are logged in and applies a fair share policy, and its abuse-system article lists mass account sharing among the behaviours that can get an account flagged. In practice your own phone, TV and laptop on one account are fine, while handing one login to several households is where restrictions begin. The GitHub comparison also reports a Terms change against account and API-key sharing, so read the current Terms before you share anything.

Easynews is Usenet access, so its limits are about connections to the news server rather than transfer slots. Older reviews report a connection count, but our tools could not read the Easynews FAQ and we found no current official figure, so the Easynews cells say not confirmed. Check its plan page for the connection and sharing terms.

Who should pick which

  • Usenet only, with a browser search and no setup: Easynews.
  • Usenet with your own indexer, plus torrents and storage: TorBox.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Easynews cost?

easynews.com's own markup lists three plans in USD as of 1 November 2026: Classic $9.98, Plus $14.97 and Big Gig $29.94 per month. Easynews advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Is Easynews a debrid service?

No. Easynews is a Usenet provider with a web search and download interface. A debrid service like TorBox caches and downloads torrents and web links for you and, on TorBox, also handles Usenet.

Which is cheaper, TorBox or Easynews?

TorBox, by a wide margin. Essential is $3 per month and Pro, which has unlimited Usenet, is $10. Easynews starts at $9.98 and an unlimited-data NNTP add-on was reported at an extra $9.95 per month by a review.

What are Easynews data caps?

Review sites report data caps by plan, such as 20 GB web on Classic and 150 GB web on Big Gig, with unlimited NNTP on Big Gig. A 2022 review is the source we could read, so check easynews.com for current numbers.

Can I use TorBox with Usenet apps?

TorBox has Usenet support on paid plans and a TorBox News Server on Pro. See the Usenet page for what works with which download client.

Should I use both?

Some people do, but check whether you need it. If you only want Usenet downloads and no torrents, one service is enough.
