TorBox Standard Plan ($5): Is the Upgrade Worth It?

Standard sits in the middle at $5 per month as of November 2026. It does not make downloads faster than Essential: it adds slots, seeding time and storage.

Last updated Reviewed November 2026

Standard is a $2 step up from Essential and it is easy to misread what you get. As of November 2026 it keeps Essential’s 200 GB per-download cap and 1 Gbps speed. You pay for two more slots, 14 days of seeding instead of 24 hours, and 500 GB of storage instead of 300 GB.

Per day, Standard is about $0.167 at the monthly price, against $0.10 for Essential. That is two thirds more for a plan whose headline numbers are mostly the same.

Who it is for

People who seed. Seeding is the clearest reason for Standard. Fourteen days gives a swarm time to pull data back from you, which matters if you keep a ratio on a tracker that expects it. Essential’s 24 hours is closer to “seed briefly and stop”.

Households or small setups using one account lightly. Five slots leave room when one person downloads, another streams a cached item and an automation job runs at once. Slots count transfers, not people. TorBox’s abuse-system article lists mass account sharing as flaggable, so this is about your household’s devices and tools, not lending the login out.

Automation users. RSS feeds and download managers that queue many items work better with 5 slots than 3. Pro’s unlimited RSS is a step beyond that.

Larger libraries. If your working set of files on TorBox regularly passes 300 GB, 500 GB gives space. Past that you are better served by keeping files elsewhere or by AirLock permanent storage.

Who should not pay for Standard

  • You never seed, or you seed less than a day.
  • You rarely run more than two or three transfers.
  • You want speed or bigger files: Standard gives you neither.

In those cases keep $2 a month and take Essential.

Usage example

Say you collect open-source distribution images and public domain video archives, run an RSS feed for new releases of a few projects and seed the ISOs for a week to give back to the swarm. Feeds fire up three downloads at once, a friend’s Jellyfin box pulls a file from your WebDAV mount, and a fourth job starts. On Essential the fourth waits. On Standard they all run. Seeding for a week is simply outside Essential’s window.

Contrast that with someone who adds one thing a day and watches it. They gain nothing from Standard.

Seeding in practice

Seeding means your copy stays available to other people in the swarm after your download finishes. TorBox’s seeding is done from its servers, so you do not need your own machine online. The plan decides how long a finished torrent keeps seeding: 24 hours on Essential, 14 days on Standard, 30 days on Pro. Whether that matters depends on where the files come from. Public swarms for Linux distributions and open-source projects do not require a ratio. Some private communities do, and those are the only people for whom the 14 days has a concrete value. If you do not belong to one, seeding longer helps strangers but does nothing for your own experience. See the seeding explainer for the details.

Slots and simultaneous use

A TorBox slot is one active transfer: a torrent or download that is running or seeding. As of November 2026 the Help Center lists 1 slot on Free, 3 on Essential, 5 on Standard and 10 on Pro. Slots count transfers, not people or devices, so 5 slots means 5 transfers active at once. Cached files do not use a slot, extra items wait in a queue and start when a slot frees up, and a download with no progress for 2 days is removed. Five slots cover one person downloading, another transfer seeding and an RSS job running together.

On devices and IPs, a Help Center article says TorBox does not track your IP and sets no limit on how many devices are logged in, with a fair share policy on top. Its abuse-system article lists mass account sharing among the behaviours that can get an account flagged, warned or banned. Using one account across your own devices is the normal case. Sharing one account between households can lead to restrictions, and the GitHub comparison reports a Terms change against account and API-key sharing, so read the current Terms before sharing.

Money check

Standard costs $60 a year at the monthly price, against $36 for Essential and $120 for Pro. The $24 gap to Essential buys the two slots, the longer seeding and the extra 200 GB of storage, nothing else. Put that way, ask yourself which of the three you have used. If the answer is none, the $2 is better spent as a month of Essential kept in reserve.

For a first purchase through our link you get 7 extra days per month bought. For 6 months of Standard that is 42 extra days. Valued at $5 / 30 per day, those are worth about $7.00. That is an estimate from the monthly list price, not a TorBox figure, and it holds only if a 6 month term costs about the same per month as monthly billing. Check the real price at checkout.

Standard against Pro

Going from $5 to $10 doubles the slot count, takes the seed window to 30 days, doubles storage to 1 TB and lifts the per-download cap from 200 GB to 1 TB. It also brings the stated speed to 80 Gbps. In practice your own connection limits you long before 1 Gbps, let alone 80, so the speed figure rarely matters at home. Pro also lists unlimited RSS/Usenet and TorBox’s own News Server, see the Usenet guide. Read the Pro plan before deciding.

Your bonus days on Standard

On a first paid purchase through our link you get 7 extra days per month purchased. Three months of Standard is 90 days plus 21, so 111 days. That cuts the cost per day by about 19 percent: from roughly $0.167 to $0.135 if the longer term is priced like monthly payments. TorBox shows multi-month prices only behind login, so confirm at checkout. The bonus is extra time, not a discount, and it does not apply to a trial or voucher.

Open the link while logged in and confirm the popup. If it does not appear, an ad blocker is usually the cause, so disable it before paying.

Works on the first purchase of each account only. Because only the first purchase counts, a longer first term earns more bonus days (3 months = 21, 6 = 42, 12 = 84). It is the same percentage and not a cheaper price, so check the price at checkout and only pick a year if you will use it.

As of November 2026: 5 slots, 200 GB per download, 1 Gbps, 14 days of seeding and 500 GB of storage for $5 per month.

Is Standard faster than Essential?

Who should pick Standard over Essential?

People who run more than three transfers at once, seed for ratio reasons for up to two weeks, or keep more than 300 GB in their TorBox storage.

When is Pro better than Standard?

When a single download can exceed 200 GB, when you want 10 slots, a 30 day seed window, 1 TB of storage, or the TorBox News Server for Usenet.

Do the bonus days work on Standard?

Yes, on your first paid purchase through our link. You get 7 extra days per month bought, so 3 months adds 21 days.
